Nectar Blanc

Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc are all from the same family. The “Pinot” family no surprise which puts them in close relation to Pinot Noir. Meaning you drink Pinot, you fancy. Our Nectar Blanc is either a pure Pinot Blanc or a cuvée with Pinot Gris.

However, as maturity sets in the most significant and obvious difference becomes apparent and the two siblings are not at all alike. Pinot Noir contains the largest amount of active anthocyanins (one component that contributes to the color of a grape). Pinot Blanc is a mutation of Pinot Noir with the least amount of anthocyanin (it’s inactive). Pinot Gris are the middle mutations, kind of half way between Pinot Noir and Pinot Blanc.

Distribution worldwide and both varieties are popular. Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc and their differences in taste:

Pinot Gris tend to show a little more extract and structure than some Pinot Blanc. Nuances of nuts and herbs are often found in the bouquet of this grape variety, paired with fresh fruit notes. Pinot Gris often smells of pineapple, lemon zest, apple and pear.

Pinot Blanc, on the other hand, is popular with many connoisseurs for its somewhat fresher expression. The bouquet reveals apple, pear, melon, quince, a hint of nuts and meadow flowers. A Pinot Blanc is often pleasantly creamy on the palate and is considered by some connoisseurs to be the rounder variant of the two varieties. The Pinot Blanc is said to have a certain similarity with the Chardonnay.
